Other cites that filed in behind the top spot were Overland Park (Kansas), Thornton (Colorado), Grand Rapids (Michigan), and Boise (Idaho).For the most affordable housing, WalletHub found that Ohio is a hot-bed for cheaper options with Akron, Toledo, and Cleveland taking the top three spots. Cleveland also had the highest rent-to-price ratio at 6%, which is more than six times higher than Sunnyvale (California), the lowest city in that category.On the flip side, finding a home in most areas of California was considered the worst option, according to the survey. The Golden State had seven cities ranked in the worst cities for first-time homebuyers including Berkeley, which took the top spot due to it being in one of the most expensive markets.Outside of California, Detroit (Michigan) and areas in Northern New Jersey (Newark and Elizabeth) were ranked as some of the worst cities, as well.
